PREVENTATIVE SCREENS

Marconi MX-8000

INTRO & STATS

Candidates For Preventative Screens
Candidacy depends on the type of screen the individual is interested in having performed. However, generally speaking, preventative screens are ideal for individuals who have a known family history of conditions such as heart disease or cancer, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, is a male over the age of 45 or a female over the age of 55 or anyone who smokes tobacco. Certain criteria must be met before a preventative screen is performed. Not all individuals are appropriate candidates for such a screen and more aggressive medical interventions may be required. Outlined in this brochure, you will find the criteria that must be met to qualify for individual preventative screens.

Efficacy of Preventative Screens
Just as most research indicates, there are pros and cons associated with preventative screens. Both medical and non-medical professionals realize that early detection and subsequent intervention are key to survival.
Preventative screens are designed to do just that — early detection, leading to early intervention to enhance one’s quality of life. Yet each screen incorporates the risk of not detecting a condition, or issuing a false positive indicator. Preventative screens are not foolproof, just as medicine itself is not foolproof.
Indian River Radiology takes pride in utilizing the newest state-of-the-art equipment available to ensure accuracy and lessen the risk of false positives. Health care professionals from all over the world are beginning to recognize the effectiveness and efficiency of preventative screens, while consumers are enjoying the lesser costs and time involved once screens are initiated.

Health Care Statistics
• Approximately 143,000 people will be diagnosed with colon cancer this year and some 56,000 of them will die from the disease
Only 37% of colon cancer is detected at an early stage
About once every 29 seconds, an American will suffer a coronary event and about once every minute, someone will die from said event
Coronary disease can be slowed down, stopped, or even reversed — if caught in time
There are over 170,000 new cases of lung cancer diagnosed each year, usually in its later stages. Only about 12-15% will survive the disease, but if diagnosed early in its progression, the survival rate can reach 80%

Insurance Coverage & Physician Referral
At this time, insurance companies will not cover preventative screens. You will be responsible for the total price of the screen at the time of the examination. Screening prices vary based on the type of screen performed. If you desire multiple screens, discounts are available. You do not need a physician’s referral to schedule a preventative screen. Based on each person’s circumstances, Indian River Radiology may ask that you do consult a physician prior to scheduling.

Utilizing the latest in technology involves serious expenditures - both in monetary terms & the quality of training (plus dedication) that the people who use that technology bring to Indian River Radiology.
